I call this book magic healing. At first i didnt want to read it. But after i did it i realized it gave me a clear understanding of my trauama. And not a negetive outlook anymore. Any bothersome thought i am "stuck" on i use this technique. And i have a different relaity on it. I didnt follow word for word but it using the main idea and i love it!! Ive been through alot. So much! And i needed relief. This book is helping me with the help ive been searching for. The past trauma and its effects.
"Tapping In" by Laurel Parnell is a great self-help book for properly processing difficult memories, stressful situations or for genuinely letting go of lingering emotional residues that are preventing the past from being THE PAST rather than a continuing parallel aspect of your present. Great explanation for why this technique is effective and how to do it with the best possible results in mind. She's very thorough. The basics of bi-lateral stimulation using physical touch rather than the EMDR techniques with which she is also fluently versed.Good job!
I've had this book for several years but, have not really used it. Recently, I tried using simple tapping to help myself let go of some bothersome emotions and memories that I'd been carrying around for awhile. Although not traumatic, they were bothersome, and I didn't like the way they kept popping up in my memory. I decided to try the tapping technique in this book while saying out loud what was bothering me. To my surprise, most of the memories disappeared and I actually laughed about some new imagery which replaced it. I have tried this method a few times lately with clients and found it to be effective so I will continue to use it both for myself and for clients. It is easy to learn and use and you may have great results, both for helping yourself let go of upsetting emotions and memories but to strengthen good or pleasant images and emotions. And, even better, you may not need a therapist to help! However, if you find this process upsetting and hard to manage, or you have a history of trauma, please seek out a therapist with experience in EMDR
Excellent book. I am using it as an adjunct to EMDR. I tend to have issues with "self-help" books because the writing tends to be all over the place with tons of space-filling stories, and the real substance of them could probably be a few pages. I love Parnell's writing style, and the book is very well organized. It is not dumbed down or patronizing. I found it helpful to read it front to back, but it also functions much like an encyclopedia. Just use the appendix to find a section or two about how to help yourself using tapping depending on the particular problem or need you might be having.I was also interested to learn how many ways you can use bilateral stimulation through tapping, including more discreet methods when out in public.. Many of Parnell's ideas I would not have thought of myself, even understanding how resourcing works. It has definitely helped with my anxiety in specific situations, as well as issues with motivation and procrastination. The strategies that Parnell teaches help a lot if you keep at it ... And USE them regularly.I do wish the book had addressed my most deep-seated bad habit: getting out of bed in the morning and not hitting the snooze button! I wish there were a section the dealt with habits in general, but after reading the book and understanding the general flow of tapping in resources, I feel equipped to be creative and tailor these methods to fit my own needs. That said, she covers and awful lot. She thought of an awful lot. I hope to see more self development books such as this by Parnell in the future!

After having read the whole book. I think that the author wrote it with very goodwill. Albeit, I think the idea could be conveyed enough well in a lot less pages. The tapping in step by step sequence is repeated few dozens of times unecesarily. I would like as well it have had more information about the specific points or zones of the body to tapping in in accordance with the organ, condition or symptoms that are being treated. The book is somehow costly for the content but provides an acceptable introduction to the topic.
I highly recommend tapping in for building inner resources for work with your trauma clients. The audio CD's are narrated by the author, and would be helpful for clients to listen to as well. Together with the theratapper, it creates a more felt sense of peace and containment for those trying to build a window of tolerance in recovery from trauma... highly recommended!
